Teeth are one of the most enduring, toughest parts of the body, and their advancement is truly incredible. Humans go through two sets of teeth in their lives, baby pearly whites and adult teeth. (And three sets if you count false teeth!) Here are a few tidbits we’ve compiled on tooth growth.
-Tooth development actually begins in children before they are born. The first tooth a child has typically appears when they are six months old, but their teeth begin developing in the second and third trimesters of their mother’s pregnancy.
-Though you might have thought it happened in the opposite order, the crown is the first part of the tooth to form, and roots continue advancing even after the tooth comes in.
-By age 2 or 3, most children should have a full set of 20 teeth. These pearly whites start falling out as early as age 6 and as late as age 12.
-Most adults have 32 pearly whites, and adult chompers come in as soon as the baby teeth start falling out.
We want you to forever retain the pearly whites that you currently have. Are you taking proper care of them so that they’ll last forever? Part of a great dental hygiene routine includes visiting your dentist at least every six months.
