Brushing your teeth seems easy–until you find yourself in the toothbrush aisle of the store, staring at an overwhelming plethora of options.

The good news is, there is no universal “correct” answer for what kind of brush to use. Some people are avid proponents of the electric toothbrush, while some people swear by their trusty conventional brush style. As toothbrushes need to be replaced every 3-4 months, you will have lots of opportunities to switch. Feel free to experiment. It’s all about personal preference and technique.

A conventional toothbrush comes with many benefits. First, there is a low price point. It is easy and inexpensive to choose a variety of colors and styles and to get a head that is a comfortable size and shape for your mouth. If the brush becomes contaminated or broken, the process of replacing it is simple, convenient, and inexpensive. With the proper brushing technique, these brushes can be just as effective as electric toothbrushes.

An electric toothbrush is very effective, as well–for many people, they make it easier to follow proper brushing technique. Depending on the style you choose, there are many features available. Some even come with timers, which help make sure you are giving enough time to your teeth. Electric toothbrushes also can make it easier for people with arthritis or other ailments: the toothbrush does the work for you, so you don’t have to move the toothbrush as much.

The one primary drawback to electric toothbrushes is the price tag. However, depending on your habits and oral needs, they may be well worth the investment. For more information, call Anaheim Hills Family Dental in Anaheim Hills, California, at (714) 998-2553.  Dr. Ryan Hong and our team are happy to help keep your smile bright!
